On the cusp.

Today is a day of being at the apex, the top, the cusp of ending one year and beginning another. It is the last few hours of time before my next birthday. It is just about a year since my last. I have successfully made another trip around the sun.

On the cusp of this birthday is the realization, once again, that many things still remain the same. We live in the same neighborhood, have the same jobs, go through the day to day paces as if we were those critters on the never ending wheel inside a cage. It is not the day to day routines that makes it a good life, it is much more the ways we choose to take a leap of faith or venture off into the unknown or let fate lead us that makes it life with a capital L.

Here are some of the moments that peppered my year and influenced my choices, some good and some not so good; continued stress and worry about family and friends- knowing our economic situation is stuck in neutral and looks to remain that way- facing the powers that be in my community knowing that I might lose big time- the desire to make memories- making a longtime wish a reality- having my eyes opened to the fact that I AM a creative person- always wanting to have more spice in my life- realizing that friends come in varieties and circumstances make those friendships special- sharing moments of celebration long distance and close up- believing, sometimes against all odds, that it is going to get better.

So What did I do in this year to try and live life with a capital L?

Here is what I remember; I prayed more earnestly for guidance and peace of mind. I trusted more. I spoke out for things I believed in and defended those who could not or would not speak out. I addressed a few hundred people in hopes of holding onto my job. I managed to keep the ball rolling on our vacation house. I got inked. I dressed an entire cast of a summer stock show. I snapped campaign pictures. I reconnected with high school classmates in person. I took a photo walk. I ate Indian food for the first time. I saw a strawberry moon.

On Monday the trip begins again.
