There are few fictitious places in my world that make me smile more than Tart Street. More particularly, the girls from Tart Street.
The girls, now women, were given the moniker years ago because of their ability to irritate their mothers on a regular basis because of a sense of style, use of make-up, and dare I say it, the gall to break a rule or two! Where did they come from and dont they know what people will think??? Tart Street is the only place these two could have come from!! You know the kind...A woman, who wears too much make-up, stiletto heals, short skirts, often in faux-animal print.
Yup, I am related to 2 of them. Most talked about in their way of doing things is the use of eyeliner!! Yes, eyeliner. A little subtle touch of pencil under and above the lid is just fine. The girls from Tart Street are not subtle about much...they boldly draw definitions around their big brown eyes!! They use dark mascara applied in layer after layer. OOOFAAA, they must be awful, terrible, at risk people. And they seem proud of being from Tart Street!! It is an exclusive club after all, and at times, one or two others have been allowed to join; but they only have a temporary membership. To be from Tart Street even for a short time means that an older generation talked behind your back, pointed out your fashion faux pas and shook their heads...often smiling at the same time. You may think you are the object of their displeasure but I believe it is the Tart Street Style that brought a little bit of worry but a lot of pleasure to that older generation.
Here is the kink in the above notion: The girls from Tart Street are not awful, loose, risky people. They are warm and loving partners, wonderful mothers, amazing cooks, adventurous and strong, smart, funny, quick witted and hard working. Two people you want to have around if you are throwing a party or need help solving a problem. They give of themselves all the time. They have big hearts and loud voices and a way of making you feel special if you are around them. They are the opposite of tart, they are sweet with a little bit of tang, like the chocolate bar flavored with jalapeno pepper.
What a treat to know the girls from Tart Street, I cant wait to hang out with them again really soon even if it means someone will be pointing and talking about what we are wearing!
I love it!!!
