I am very lucky recently because I have made some really fun new friends. We all live and work in town and are somehow involved in the theatre life. Some are very talented singers, costumers, actors or parents of talented offspring. All are really funny and have big personalities. All are unafraid to be silly. Silly seems to be our trademark. So when one of us decided our next themed soiree should be our own version of white trash I was in (since all of us are educated women we are aware that this theme can be considered a little less than politically correct; we really didnt care.) We were all to bring an appropriate food or drink, an item of clothing to paint onto, and a white-trashy name for ourselves.
This is not as easy as you might think. As you know if you read this blog, I love names and the reasons people choose the names they do. I have never had to name myself, however. So I pondered using my initials to come up with something, or find a trait to hang a moniker on. I wanted it to be representative of me. I may have been trying too hard. It wasnt easy, but I remembered a term used for me a long time ago and it made me smile now as it had then. I looked it up using Urban Dictionalry and here is what I got: "Toots:Term of endearment roughly equivalent to "baby". Note: Only applicable if you live in a black and white movie."
Needless to say I DO NOT live in a black and white movie in any way shape or form. I live in a world of technicolor dreams and sparkling laughter and insightful books, wonderful family and amazing creations. I listen to melodies that make me sing out loud, dream of a future of giggling babies and hugs from a man who has hugged me for decades. I take chances, drive to new adventures, play in the waves and celebrate with joy and sometimes break down completely in sorrow during times of sadness.
Black and White Movie??? Not possible.
The White-trash soiree was a huge success! The fare was as varied as my friends; corn dog muffins, tater tot casserole, pork rinds and jerky, fruit salad with jack o lantern Peeps, Jello Shots, beer dip...entertainment provided by PeggyJane,Candi (with a heart over the i), Perky, Sugar, Bubbles and welcoming Mabel and Bobbijoe. Among the time spent breaking into show tunes, or sharing moments of strife, or offering advice to each other we were occasionally inappropriate, often hysterically funny, sometimes sharing secrets but mostly just "making our own kind of music" together. There was nothing even vaguely like a black and white movie present. Not possible with these chicks who now know just how to "take your finger and....."!!
I am so very glad that you share your world: both by blog and in person.
