Amy and Dawn were here!!
My young, beautiful, fun and smart cousins drove from Brooklyn to stay for a few days at my little house in the cornfield. I loved it. I rarely have company, other than my parents, so for people to drive my way (from the east to the west) was a treat!!! And to have girls visit was even better. There is just something about hanging out with girls that is like popping the cork on champagne! Especially for me, who has lived with only men-folk for over three decades.
I had high hopes for laying on the beach at Whipple's Dam & working on our tans, but Mother Nature had other plans. We had plenty to do despite the cloudy weather and jumped right in shopping, cooking, sightseeing, talking, laughing and sharing. At 2000° they took the plunge and painted noodle bowls! We walked through campus to the Lion statue (still waiting for my grads iconic picture, by the way!)and then to get an ice cream at the world famous Creamery. We hit Goodwill, Plato's Closet, and the hills of Boalsburg. Our evenings were spent dining, sharing stories on the deck for hours, playing with the animals and really getting to know each other better.
Here is a little bit of what I learned from and about them; in no particular order: everyone has different talents and abilities, i.e.Amy is a great business woman but turns a little pale when asked to pick some fresh parsley! Dawn is the queen of bargain shopping who likes quirky items like Golden Girls tee shirts. Both have a knack for telling a good story and they are best of friends. Missing someone does not get easier. Family is number one over everything else and they will go to the ends of the earth for us. Bread is life! Dogs are family, too. GPS can get you from NY to State College in a way no one ever has before! Babies will be coming into our family in droves (soon--not yet, but soon). Boyfriends can drive you crazy. It is ok to cheat on your vegan diet experiment if you are far away from home. Our week at the shore will be epic. Sue and Brian did a great job!
Please, come back again! This Fresh Air fund is always ready for you two.
sounds like a wonderful time!
