Today on Today I was watching a little bit of Olympics coverage and was enjoying the personalities of a few of the American atheltes. The ones with flair especially. Dont you love that word: flair? I do. It reminds me of the coolest things. The definition of flair is a natuaral talent or ability; having a flair for something.
My family has a tremendous amount of flair. Brian has a flair for understatement. Cathy has a flair with decorating. Nicholas has a flair for dialing his phone in the middle of the night. Missy has a flair for adventure. The other definition I really liked was flair=pizazz!! Think Shawn White flying on his snowboard with his mane of orange hair blowing behind him. Pizazz! or that wild and talented Lady Ga Ga. Man; she is chock full of pizazz! The word pizazz has flair.
I need flair in my world. I love the excitement of the kids before a school dance and the energy of this town before a big game. Little things, too. Like a bagful of powdered jelly donuts for breakfast (that is rare but so uplifting sometimes and I dont eat the whole bagful myself!). There is a facebook application called "Flair". You find buttons with pictures or sayings to express yourself and add to your page. Some of my flair buttons were of places I dream of (palm trees and beaches), things that make me smile (babies, Snoopy dancing with wild abandon, Elpheba), sayings and musical lyrics that I identify with. Little computerized buttons that you could click and get some personalized flair. So easy. If only, right?
On the other hand; and there is always the other hand; it is really OK to not have flashy flair. To just be. I know we all have God given talents and gifts, I just don't think flair must necessarily be out there all the time. I think about Adam and his intelligence, his ability to be open with his love for us. Shane has a gift for communicating with and teaching the children in his classroom in a way that none of us knew existed. My husband has perseverance like few others.
Looking for flair---cant wait to discover some more soon.
